About

Kingston Sound Works originated as a rehearsal space with a small retail store front in 1998. In conjunction with the rehearsal space, Sound Works also provided a full audio production company doing sound for bands ranging from local acts to Indie touring groups such as Joel Plaskett, to big label acts like Bernie Worrell.

A few years later co-owners, Rob Bailey and Joel Yearsley expanded the business and made the move to 267 Ontario Street, expanding the focus of Kingston Sound Works to include a wide selection of instruments, recording equipment, accessories and pro audio gear.  The business continued to expand, and in March 2009 Kingston Sound Works opened a second location a couple of doors down at 101-275 Ontario Street which housed the pro audio and lighting equipment, recording interfaces and software, microphones, cables and accessories, as well as the rental, audio/video production, and installation branches of Sound Works.

In the fall of 2011 Kingston Sound Works shifted the production side of the business to its current location, 368 Rideau Street, to allow for more storage space and ample parking for customers.  Soon afterwards Rob and Joel noticed that the climate for instrument sales had shifted as more and more people were buying at large box stores or online.  Given this trend the decision was made to refocus the business to highlight the services Kingston Sound Works offered.  This led to a larger investment in Pro Audio equipment, Lighting, and back line rentals, and a further expansion of installation projects, while also shifting the focus of the retail store to recording equipment, speakers, lighting and accessories.
